Applications Now Being Accepted for 2019-2020 CHIP Funding

Applications are now being accepted for the 2019-2020 program of the Community Housing Impact & Preservation (CHIP) Program. Funding is available for low-to-moderate income households to help with essential home improvements.


Application packets are available at the CHIP Office, 112 East Mansfield Street, Bucyrus, or at the Galion City Building, 301 Harding Way East, Galion.


Funding is available to any single-family dwelling in Crawford County, whose total income of all wage earners (18 years and older) is less than the income guidelines. Applicants whose total net assets equal an amount greater than $100,000 are not eligible. Items considered net assets include but are not limited to: inheritances, personal valuables, collectibles, and payments for mineral rights.


Owner Rehab

The Purpose of this program is to rehabilitate a one-family housing unit, which is owned and occupied by low-to-moderate income families. Eligible items for this program include: Installation and/or repairs to foundations, roofs, gutters, electrical upgrades, plumbing, furnaces, hot water heaters, insulation, window, doors, siding, accessibility improvements, and lead-based paint abatement.


Projects are ranked based on need. Each project may receive up to $36,000. Applications for the first round of rehab projects are being accepted now through Dec. 10.


Home Repair

The purpose of this program is to provide home repairs to one-family housing units, which are owned and occupied by low-to-moderate income families. Eligible items for this program include: emergency repairs, handicapped accessibility, tap-ins, well and septic repairs.


Applications are accepted at any time. Projects are funded on a first come, first served basis while funding lasts. Each project may receive up to $9,000.


For both project types, the home owner needs to fill out the application and gather all required documents:

  • Evidence of all sources of income (for all household members 18 and older)
  • All sources of assets (bank account statements, IRA accounts, etc.)
  • Deed (must be applicant’s name)
  • Insurance declaration
  • Mortgage(s)
  • Most recent property tax statement
