City Law Director Thomas Palmer provided his annual report to city council earlier this month.
"This office is part of a governmental team that has the best interests of the citizens of Galion as its primary focus. That shared, there have been challenging moments during the last twelve months, but none has served to derail the process of local governance. This is reflected in the strong record of accomplishments during 2016," the report states.
In 2016, the law department handled the following cases in Crawford County Municipal Court:
The Victims of Crime Advocate (VOCA) program handled 63 cases in 2016, including 53 domestic incidents.
The law director also noted the city is currently involved in two primary non-foreclosure-related cases in the Crawford County Court of Common Pleas. One of those cases has to date involved a large amount of discovery and pre-trial work, all conducted in coordination with co-counsel.
The law department consists of the law director, assistant law director, and the VOCA agent.
